It will now only take 1.5 hours to reach Kyrenia from Turkey by ferry
Maritime travel between Turkey and Kyrenia now takes just 1.5 hours, thanks to the preparation of a pier in the Anamur area and the acquisition of a new leased ferry.
The pier, situated closest to Cyprus in the city of Anamur, has been readied for ferry service to the island. Under the guidance of the governor of Mersin, supported by the district administration, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and local businessmen, a company has been established to manage maritime transportation.
Additionally, a ferry with a capacity of 450 people has been leased for travel from the pier, where a customs building has been constructed, to the port of Kyrenia in just 1.5 hours.
Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan of Mersin, who visited Anamur and inspected the pier on-site, announced that voyages would commence in June.
"This location is our closest point to Cyprus. We've leased a ferry for 450 people, and voyages will start in June. From here, it will only take 1.5 hours to reach the port of Kyrenia," said Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan.
The governor also noted that in 2019, a pier for ferries and hydroplanes was constructed at this location. In 2021, a building was erected to house customs facilities. Since then, questions have arisen regarding the continued use of the pier for ferry crossings to the TRNC, and the management of the pier was assumed by the governorship of the district.
Currently, a customs zone, port management facilities, and security units are being established in the harbor.
According to the governor, the pier is expected to serve not only the adjacent regions but also other provinces in central Anatolia, from Antalya to Karaman, and from Konya to Adana.
