Ersin Tatar to Run in the TRNC Presidential Elections
Ersin Tatar, the current president of Northern Cyprus, has announced that he will run for re-election in the upcoming presidential race this fall.
Tatar shared his decision during a live interview on Kibris Postasi TV.
"I have already made my decision. I will run for president. What matters now is who will support me. The work I’ve done in politics over the years speaks for itself," Tatar said.
Now, Tatar is awaiting the decision of the National Unity Party (UBP), which he led until becoming president in 2020, on which candidate it will endorse. While Tatar hopes to be the UBP's candidate, he acknowledges the potential constitutional complications, as the president is required to be independent of any political party after the elections.
It’s important to note that preparations for the 2025 presidential election in Northern Cyprus are already underway. The TRNC's sixth president is set to be elected by October 12 at the latest.
