Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş honored in Istanbul
On January 27, 2026, a memorial ceremony and art exhibition dedicated to Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş were held in Istanbul. The event was organized by the Istanbul branch of the Turkish Cypriot Cultural Association.
According to the association, the event commemorates the anniversaries of Küçük’s and Denktaş’s deaths, as well as the 68th anniversary of the Turkish Cypriot uprising against British colonial rule. The program included the opening of the art exhibition, a formal ceremony, and a joint commemorative photo.
TRNC Consul General in Istanbul, Zalihe Mendeli, noted in her speech that having an independent state is not easy, and lives were given in this path, paying tribute to Fazıl Küçük, Rauf Raif Denktaş, and all who perished. As an honorary guest, the 5th president of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, participated in the event. The chairperson of the Turkish Cypriot Cultural Association, Zehra Bilge Eray, also gave a speech.
The program concluded with the exhibition opening and an autograph session: Ersin Tatar signed his book “Kıbrıs Sevdası”, after which participants took a joint commemorative photo.
