The Association of Greek Cypriot Lawyers issued a statement regarding the old Greek-owned real estate in the TRNC.

According to the president of the Association of Lawyers, Michalis Vorkas, the union will not allow its lawyer members to participate in the use or sale of old real estate belonging to Greek Cypriots remaining in the northern part of the island.

As reported by the Greek newspaper "Politis," during yesterday's press conference held by the Bar Association, some Greek lawyers responded to accusations of their involvement in the use and sale of former Cypriot-Greek real estate in the TRNC and receiving illicit financial gains.

The union leader stated that the Bar Association "will not allow any lawyer in Southern Cyprus to participate in activities that directly or indirectly recognize the TRNC and involve the use of Cypriot-Greek real estate."

Michalis Vorkas also responded to accusations of money laundering through lawyers involved in such transactions. He noted that such cases are very rare, adding that in the event of a major scandal, the association will not cover for the lawyers and will make their names public.
