Foreigner Lived Illegally in TRNC for 2,791 Days — Caught After Noise Complaint
A foreign national who had been living illegally in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for nearly eight years was recently brought before a court after being discovered during a routine check triggered by a noise complaint.
The individual was detained in an apartment building on Uygar Street in Gönyeli on May 23, 2025, after neighbors contacted authorities to report excessive noise. Police responded to the complaint and conducted an identity check on the premises.
During the immigration inspection, it was revealed that the man had been living in the TRNC without a valid residence permit since January 30, 2017 — a total of 2,791 days.
Following his arrest, he was brought before a judge, who ordered that he be held in custody for an additional three days while further investigations and deportation proceedings are carried out.
In court, the man said he is willing to purchase his own ticket and requested to be deported as soon as possible.
