The first phase of reconstruction work on the main sewer pipeline on Dereboyu Street in Nicosia will commence on July 22. During the approximately one-month repair period, the street will be closed to traffic.

Sewer works will also take place on Mehmet Akif Avenue (Dereboyu), Bedrettin Demirel Street, and the connecting Gültekin Şenğer Street. The main conveyance pipes, constructed in 1986, are heavily worn, leading to frequent utility failures, blockages, wastewater leaks, and unpleasant odors.

Detailed studies conducted by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality's Sewerage Department revealed serious structural deformities and cracks in the pipeline. The pipe degradation prevents high-pressure sewer cleaning.

The repair will proceed in three stages, fully renovating the remaining section of the main sewer pipeline. Pipes will be replaced with new ones made from durable and long-lasting materials. Additionally, a robust and secure infrastructure for connecting houses will be established. All work is scheduled for completion by September 15.

Earlier reports indicated that the contract's cost is approximately one million euros (or 36 million Turkish liras), funded by the European Union.

As part of the first phase of work starting on July 22, activities will begin from Kumsal Park to the intersection of Gültekin Şenğer Street and Mehmet Akif Avenue. The route where work will be conducted will be closed to traffic to ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety and expedite work completion.

Access to workplaces and residential premises will be maintained via open sidewalks, ensuring all necessary safety measures are followed.

Additionally, the Nicosia Turkish Municipality will organize an informational meeting for local residents and traders to provide detailed information about the works to be carried out in the area. It will take place on Wednesday, July 17, at 20:00 in Kumsal Park.
