Hakan Dinçürek explained changes in the physician training system and criticized Ceyhun Dalkan
On January 27 in Northern Cyprus, Minister of Health Hakan Dinçürek stated on BRT that the authority for specialist training will be transferred from YÖDAK to the Medical Specialties Council and criticized the president of the Doctors’ Association, Ceyhun Dalkan.
Dinçürek reminded that currently YÖDAK has the right to grant specialization, and the new regulation transfers this authority to the Medical Specialties Council. He noted that neither system has centralized exams and cited several countries where centralized exams are also not applied.
The minister presented the composition of the new council: 2 representatives from ministries, 4 physicians with academic careers, 4 medical faculty lecturers, 1 YÖDAK representative, and 2 representatives from the Doctors’ Association. Dinçürek pointed out that a similar structure operates in Turkey, where the Doctors’ Association has one representative, while in TRNC there will be two.
According to Dinçürek, the new rules will strengthen oversight: institutional exams will be monitored by the council, training programs will be inspected at least every six months, and in case of serious violations, warnings or program closures may occur. The minister also criticized Dalkan’s decision to cease cooperation with the Ministry of Health and called for his resignation, emphasizing the need to uphold academic ethics.
