Authorities in the TRNC have revised the amount of imported frozen meat. This week, the country will receive 20,881 kilograms of products, which will be available for sale next week.

This announcement came after a meeting between the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC, Hussein Chavush, and representatives of the Association of Animal Breeders and Breeders. Negotiations with protesting livestock farmers took place yesterday evening in the meeting room of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hussein Chavush, the Minister of Economy and Energy, Olgyun Amjaoglu, and the Minister of Finance, Ozdemir Berova. Despite lasting more than three hours, the talks failed to reach a consensus. Today, the trade union will again hold a protest action, which has been ongoing for ten days.

At a press conference after the meeting, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture announced that the parties were able to find common ground on two points related to meat imports and came to a unified opinion, but they could not do so on other issues.

Emphasizing that the government intends to import meat, the minister denied the assertion that meat would be imported for hotels. Frozen meat will primarily be intended for low-income individuals.

"This week, there will be three deliveries, with 20,881 kilograms of meat arriving. Subsequently, the quantity of imported products will be assessed according to needs," the minister said.

He also emphasized that the meat imported from the Netherlands has European origin. It is expected that imported meat will appear on the shelves next week. According to the conditions, markets where meat is sold at -18 degrees Celsius must be equipped with special refrigerated shelves and generators.

Hussein Chavush added that the government will continue to monitor meat prices until June 19th.

Recall that earlier, the TRNC authorities initially set the maximum allowable meat price at 550 Turkish lira. This caused dissatisfaction among producers and led to meat disappearing from store shelves for some time. The government's next decision was to approve the import of frozen lamb and minced meat from abroad. Meat products will be imported to the TRNC from the Netherlands.

The cost of frozen meat imported to Northern Cyprus will not exceed 400 Turkish lira.

The government's decision to import meat has sparked dissatisfaction among local producers: livestock farmers in Northern Cyprus have been protesting for the second week. Other unions joined them on Monday.
