Turkey's Vice President Jevdet Yılmaz to Inaugurate the Largest Mosque in Cyprus

The Vice President of the Republic of Turkey, Jevdet Yılmaz, will arrive in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Thursday, January 11. He will participate in the opening ceremony of the largest mosque on the island.

It is expected that Jevdet Yılmaz and his accompanying delegation will arrive on the island in the first half of the day and inaugurate the Dr. Suat Günsel Mosque.

The solemn opening ceremony of the Muslim place of worship is scheduled for January 11. The mosque will have 62 domes and six minarets. The main dome, with a height of 36.8 meters and a diameter of 23.8 meters, will become the largest on the island.

The foundation of the mosque was laid in 2013, and it took 10 years for its construction. Approximately 10,000 people will be able to pray here simultaneously.

Four minarets, each 76.2 meters tall, will have three balconies. The other two minarets, each 56.45 meters tall, will have two balconies.

The stained glass windows adorning the mosque's 104 windows are painted by artists from the "Cyprus Museum of Modern Art," and the dome decorations, handmade in about a year, are signed by Uzbek artists. White stone, typical of Cyprus, is used for the external surface of the mosque.

In addition to the Turkish delegation, representatives from many Muslim countries will be present at the event.

After the mosque's opening ceremony, Jevdet Yılmaz will meet with citizens in the Mesaoria region and then leave the island.
