KTTO calls for transparency and participation of local businesses in the fiber-optic project

The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO) has assessed the strengthening of the communication infrastructure of Northern Cyprus as a strategic step for the digital transformation and economic development of the region. The released statement emphasizes that high-speed, high-quality, and affordable internet is not just a technological investment, but a key element of digitalization, competitiveness, and sustainable development of the country.
KTTO noted that the implementation of such strategic investments must be carried out in accordance with the principles of public benefit, transparency, and competition, with open participation of stakeholders. The chamber expressed concern about the potential transfer of the infrastructure project directly to a specific investor without an open tender, without informing the public, and without the participation of local companies.
The statement stresses the need for all strategic infrastructure projects to be implemented through open tenders with the involvement of the local private sector. According to KTTO, this will help preserve accumulated resources and ensure sustainable development of the country based on its own capabilities.
The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce also emphasized the importance of a transparent and competitive approach to the creation and operation of the fiber-optic network, noting that the digital future of Northern Cyprus can be sustainable only with such an economic approach. KTTO intends to monitor the development of the project and regularly inform the public of its assessments, whether positive or negative.
