Lefke calls for order: environmentalists point out problems with infrastructure, cleanliness, and the city’s appearance

The Lefke Environmental Association stated that serious problems with infrastructure, public amenities, and the city’s overall appearance have accumulated in the district center and the villages of the municipality. According to them, many bus stops are rusted and look abandoned, signs near historical sites have faded, and road signs are missing in some places or are in poor condition — all of which affects both safety and the perception of the area.
It is noted separately that during the rainy season, large puddles and standing water regularly appear on the roads, which, in the authors’ opinion, indicates shortcomings in the stormwater drainage system. Other complaints include weak street lighting, a lack of public toilets and their unsatisfactory condition, as well as insufficient care for historical heritage.
The statement emphasizes that the situation concerns not only the center of Lefke: according to the organization, similar problems exist in the municipal villages as well. In addition, the condition of the area near the Aplıç border checkpoint is criticized, as it forms the first impression for those entering the region.
The organization called on the authorities to abandon “temporary patches” and move toward systemic solutions — with planning, funding, and oversight, in cooperation between local and central structures.
