Meritta: in honor of World Fisheries Day, six sea turtles were returned to the wild

Representatives of Meritta visited fishermen from Yedidalga to Mağusa, thanking them for their contribution to supporting the marine ecosystem and discussing possible joint initiatives. As part of the visits, a meeting was also held with former Minister of Public Works and Transport İbrahim Başarır.
Special attention was given to turtles found by fishermen and handed over to the rehabilitation center for treatment. In honor of World Fisheries Day, six green sea turtles — Firuz, Arda Bey, Niymeti Hanım, Hacı Güner, Boni, and Yusuf Kaptan — were released back into their natural habitats after successful rehabilitation.
The center’s director, biologist Silem Sargın Kara, noted that cooperation with fishermen is a key element in efforts to protect the marine environment:
“We work together for the future of our seas. The care shown by fishermen and their willingness to cooperate are the most important support for our common mission.”
