Meta shuts down official ELAM pages on Facebook and Instagram
On February 20, 2026, Meta shut down the official Facebook and Instagram pages of the ELAM party in Cyprus following a series of user complaints.
As reported by Alithia, ELAM has responded to the closure by filing appeals with the police and the Commissioner of Communications.
According to the party's press office, Marios Pelekanos, Head of Public Relations and Communications, stated that the decision—based on consistent complaints—restricts "ELAM's right to political expression on the internet." The party has demanded an investigation into the matter and the restoration of access to its pages.
Pelekanos emphasized that ELAM is represented in both the national and European Parliaments, expressing the view that this "attempt to silence" the party could directly or indirectly influence the results of the upcoming general elections.
For users in Northern Cyprus, this means that ELAM's official social media accounts are currently unavailable for viewing or interaction. There has been no word yet on when the pages might be restored.
