Metehan checkpoint being expanded, new CPs pending approval

President Tufan Erhürman announced the completion of the Turkish side’s work on expanding the Metehan checkpoint. After the Greek side finishes its work, the number of booths and personnel will increase to seven on each side, which should reduce queues.
Additionally, by the end of the month, road permit issuance points are planned to be implemented at the Bostancı and Derinya checkpoints. Erhürman again proposed opening several new checkpoints at once — Haspolat, Akıncılar, and the Kiraciköy–Eglence route, which will simplify travel from Larnaca to Nicosia.
He also criticized the Greek side’s proposals regarding the Green Line Regulation, stating that abolishing VAT on southern goods would create unfair competition for Northern Cyprus producers.
