In Güzelyurt, historical railway station handed over to municipality
The old railway station in Güzelyurt, Northern Cyprus, was officially handed over to the municipality following the signing of a protocol on April 16, 2026, at the Ministry of Finance building.
The protocol was signed by Minister of Finance Dr. Özdemir Berova and Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar; Yusuf Kenan Yeşilleme, head of the State Property and Material Resources Department, was present at the signing. The handover is carried out in accordance with the Council of Ministers' decision of March 10, 2026, No. Ü(K-I) 429-2026.
Under the terms of the agreement, the historic building comes under the guardianship of the municipality for preservation and subsequent use. The project involves developing the area as a center for community events and an exhibition space for historical artifacts related to the district's railway history.
For Güzelyurt residents, this means the creation of a new platform for cultural and social initiatives, preservation of local heritage, and potential tourist attraction. The municipality and relevant departments have received a mandate to prepare project documentation and implement works in accordance with conservation requirements.
