Minimum Wage in TRNC Lowered After Employers' Objections
The commission responsible for determining the minimum wage in the TRNC convened today to address objections raised against the earlier decision. Following the session, the minimum wage was reduced by 120 Turkish lira.
During the consideration of employers' objections, the commission concluded that the increase in the minimum wage should be 22.98% instead of 23.5%.
Therefore, it is expected that the new minimum wage will be approximately 29,520 Turkish lira.
Recall that on May 21, the Commission's decision increased the net minimum wage by 23.5% to 29,640 Turkish lira. This consensus was reached by representatives of the government and workers, while the employers' side voted against the increase. A period of 10 days was allocated for objections to be submitted.
Today, after reviewing the objections received, the final amount was adjusted.
Ahmet Serdaroglu, President of the Public Servants Union, stated after the session that the union representatives did not participate in the voting because they did not see the necessity.
Recall that the previous minimum wage in Northern Cyprus was set in early January 2024. It was 24,000 Turkish lira for private sector workers and 34,430 Turkish lira for public servants.
