The Ministry of Public Works and Transport issued a warning about a fake SMS
On October 17, 2025, in Northern Cyprus, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport issued a warning about a fraudulent SMS message being circulated as an image bearing the caption “OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT” (Turkish: “RESMİ DUYURU”).
The Ministry stated that the image is being spread in the name of the General Directorate of Highways of the Republic of Türkiye and that it is a scam. The message has no connection to official sources and is intended to mislead citizens.
The Ministry urged residents not to trust such materials and to avoid clicking on links contained in these SMS messages. It also advised anyone who received a similar message to immediately contact the police and file a report.
The incident was officially reported; however, no additional technical details regarding the content of the message were provided. To protect citizens’ personal data and funds, the Ministry emphasized the importance of verifying official government channels before taking any action based on SMS requests.
