The Ministry of Transport of Northern Cyprus warned about fraudulent SMS messages

The Ministry of Transport of Northern Cyprus issued an official warning about fraudulent SMS messages being sent on behalf of the General Directorate of Highways (Karayolları Genel Müdürlüğü).
In the ministry's statement, it is noted that recently there has been an increase in cases of citizens receiving messages marked as "official announcement" ("RESMİ DUYURU"), allegedly from the Directorate of Highways. These messages contain false instructions and requests intended to mislead recipients and fraudulently obtain their data or funds.
The ministry strongly urged citizens not to trust such messages, not to follow the instructions contained in them, and not to respond. In case of receiving such SMS, it is recommended to contact the police immediately.
It is noted that the issue became noticeable after media reports about attempts by fraudsters to use the name of the Directorate of Highways for illegal activities. Therefore, the ministry deemed it necessary to officially warn the public and remind them of the risks.
