The Ministry of Transport of Northern Cyprus has warned about the spread of fake SMS messages

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Northern Cyprus has alerted citizens about fraudulent SMS messages circulating that imitate official notifications from Turkish government agencies.
According to the ministry, perpetrators send messages allegedly on behalf of the General Directorate of Highways of Turkey (Karayolları Genel Müdürlüğü) with headings such as "Resmî Duyuru" ("Official Announcement"). These SMS messages contain links leading to fake websites where users may be asked to provide personal information or pay fictitious fees.
The ministry emphasized that such messages have no connection to official institutions and are not sent by government agencies. Citizens are urged not to click on unknown links and to report suspicious SMS messages to the police immediately.
The ministry's statement also notes that official notifications are published exclusively through verified sources — government websites, ministry portals, or their official social media accounts.
The ministry reminded that such schemes are becoming increasingly common and urged residents to remain vigilant, especially if a message requests personal data or payment.
