The TRNC Minister of Labour promised “the most equitable” minimum wage in 2026

The TRNC Minister of Labour and Social Security, Oguzhan Hasipoglu, stated that the government intends to determine “the fairest and most appropriate for the country’s conditions” minimum wage for 2026. He emphasized that before the official meetings of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission begin, he is ready to meet with all parties — trade unions and employers — and listen to their proposals.
The discussion was prompted by an initiative from the head of the Hür-İş trade union federation, Ahmet Serdaroğlu, who earlier said that negotiations on the minimum wage should not be postponed until January and called on both the government and employers for an urgent meeting. A meeting between the minister and the Employers’ Union is also scheduled for today, where, according to him, the main topics will be the minimum wage and labour market issues.
Hasipoglu noted that he will be participating in the work of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission for the first time in the capacity of minister and gave a signal to workers: the government’s goal is to find a balance between the interests of employers and employees so that citizens can “live with dignity within the economic realities of the country.”
