Ministry of Transport refutes distortions: revenue from transport fees exceeded 1.6 billion lira
The TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport has issued a clarification following publications in several online media outlets regarding the payment of road tax and vehicle technical inspection fees. The department stated that the data presented previously were incomplete and did not reflect the real situation.
As explained by the ministry, several publications only took into account payments made at registration and licensing offices, while a significant portion of transactions is carried out online using bank cards.
According to clarified data, in the period from January 1 to December 31, 2025, road tax was paid for 300,290 vehicles. Of these, 108,345 owners made payments through branches, while 191,945 used online services.
A similar situation is observed with technical inspections: a total of 125,317 vehicles paid the fees, of which 38,887 were in branches and 86,430 were online.
In financial terms, state revenues from transport fees proved to be significant. According to the ministry, road tax receipts amounted to 1 billion 618 million 176 thousand Turkish lira, and technical inspection fees reached 155 million 135 thousand lira.
It is also emphasized that the total number of registered vehicles in the country reached 447,592 units, including all categories of transport, not just passenger cars.
The ministry urged the media and the public to take into account the full volume of data, including digital payments, to avoid distortions and form an objective view of the situation in the transport sector.
