Lightning Strike Sparks Major Fire Near Geçitkale Airport
A lightning strike has ignited a significant fire near Geçitkale Airport in Northern Cyprus.
According to preliminary reports from the police press office, the fire, which began around 16:00, was triggered by a lightning strike, resulting in the burning of unharvested crops covering an area of 51 decares.
Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.
In other developments, the fire department's report indicates that last week, the country experienced 21 fires and 35 incidents requiring intervention by rescue teams. Four fires occurred in Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, and Güzelyurt, while three took place in Geçitkale and two in İskele. The total damage from these incidents is estimated to be 1,133,950 Turkish lira.
