Usury suspect arrested in Güzelyurt; several arrests across the island
In Northern Cyprus, in Güzelyurt, according to a police press release, 37-year-old A.K. was arrested on suspicion of usury. It is reported that on February 26, he lent 5 thousand pounds sterling to an individual while receiving a promissory note for 8 thousand pounds sterling.
Following the report, police conducted operational activities, resulting in the suspect being identified and detained. An investigation is underway.
As part of nationwide checks, law enforcement officers also detained five individuals who did not have a residence permit for the country.
In Çatalköy, a garage worker H.I.Y. (27) was detained. According to police information, between January 1 and March 31, 2026, he stole a car control computer and several auto parts from the garage where he worked; after the facts were established, the suspect was taken into custody.
Police are continuing investigations into all of these incidents. According to available information, checks and operational-search activities across the country will continue.
