Man Detained at Border Attempting to Enter TRNC with Fake ID
In the Republic of Cyprus, a 63-year-old Cypriot was detained while attempting to illegally enter the TRNC through the Deryneia checkpoint.
According to media reports, the man had previously been arrested in a drug trafficking case and was out on bail awaiting trial. However, while under restrictive measures, he attempted to leave the territory.
On February 21, he arrived at the checkpoint on a motorcycle, using a forged identity document and hiding his face under a helmet and mask. He was detained there by officers.
The attempted escape was disclosed in court, where the man was brought once again.
