Urgent fences demanded in Karpas due to wild donkeys

The Karpaz Protection Association has called for urgent measures to reduce risks related to wild donkeys in the Karpas region. The organization proposes the immediate installation of protective barriers on the most dangerous sections of the Dipkarpaz – Erenkoy road, and the designation of the Zaferburnu area as a national park.
The head of the association, Dursun Çebi, noted that the donkeys have become not only a symbol of the region and part of its tourist appeal but also a source of ecological problems and a public safety threat. According to him, the animals damage agricultural land and regularly cause road traffic accidents.
Çebi emphasized that particular concern arises from the completion of road works in the Zaferburnu area — after the road opens, vehicle speeds will increase, which without additional safety measures could lead to more serious accidents.
The association has also called on environmental organizations to develop realistic and sustainable solutions, and urged authorities to take control of the situation immediately. According to Çebi, delay today could result in tragedies.
