ON CYPRUS, THE "EUROPEAN UNION SINGLE WINDOW" HAS OPENED TO BOOST TRADE ACROSS THE "GREEN LINE"
On Monday, the European Union's single center for trade across the "green line" started operating in Cyprus. The service is open to provide information and technical assistance to businesses and individuals already engaged in or wishing to trade across the "Green Line" in Cyprus.
The "EU Single Window" service (One Stop Shop) is located on Deligiorgi Street in Nicosia and will offer specialized expertise, information, and network support in Turkish, Greek, and English languages. It will also have a trilingual website.
Speaking at the opening of the "Single Window," Mario Nava, the Director-General of the European Commission for Structural Reform Support, emphasized the EU's strong commitment to facilitating and promoting trade across the "green line" as a powerful measure to build trust.
He stated that steps such as the opening of the One Stop Shop would pave the way for the reunification of the island. Nava highlighted the close cooperation between the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, naming them key partners in the "Single Window" initiative.
"Increasing trade across the 'green line' is one of the main priorities of the Commission in Cyprus," he added.
Elisa Ferreira, the EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, stated, "Trade across the 'green line' brings people and businesses together and provides significant economic opportunities for businesses from both communities."
It is also noted that the "Single Window" will provide producers and traders (both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots) with easy access to valuable information about trade procedures across the "green line." It will also inform them about EU standards and requirements that Cypriot-Turkish products must meet to be placed on the EU market.
The "Single Window" is funded by the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community, with €688 million allocated to the aid program since 2006.
