In Lefkoşa, Northern Cyprus, F.G.A. (female, 23) was arrested on suspicion of illegal stay; on December 24, 2025, the court extended her detention and allowed the continuation of the investigation.
According to police, on December 11, 2025, during a migration check at Lefkoşa Adli Şube, it was established that the woman had been in the country without permission since November 29, 2022 — a total of 1,108 days. The detainee was questioned and an investigation was initiated against her.
At the first court hearing, the police initially obtained a three-day detention to continue investigative actions. After an additional request by the police, the court issued an eight-day extended detention. The police informed the court that deportation procedures had been initiated against the woman, but they are not yet completed and require time.
The court granted the police request to extend detention by eight days. For residents in Northern Cyprus, this means that migration checks continue, and cases of prolonged illegal stay may lead to detention and the initiation of deportation procedures.
