Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment of TRNC, Fikri Ataoğlu, issued a message on the occasion of International Theatre Day, which is celebrated on March 27. New theatrical venues will emerge in Northern Cyprus, and two theater festivals will be held.

According to the minister, funds have been allocated in the country's budget for the construction project of the Cypriot-Turkish State Theater.

“The theater is an important part of our cultural heritage, where people express their feelings and thoughts in the purest form, deeply influencing society. It is very important to once again remember the magic and power of theater and reconsider the values that art brings to humanity,” the ministry head's statement reads.

The minister also expressed regret that the building of the Cypriot-Turkish State Theater is currently unusable due to its dilapidated condition.

Therefore, the government of the country has decided to allocate funds in the budget for the construction project of Cypriot-Turkish State Theaters. The project, which will provide theater enthusiasts with new buildings and stages, is already in the tender stage.

“The building of the Cypriot-Turkish State Theater, abandoned to fate for 25 years now, will offer a completely new platform to our artists and theater lovers. We will work harder together to develop theatrical art in the Turkish Cypriot community and increase our cultural wealth,” the minister stated.

In the conclusion of his address, Fikri Ataoğlu congratulated everyone who contributes to the theatrical arts on their professional holiday.

It is worth reminding that on the occasion of International Theatre Day, two theater festivals will take place in Northern Cyprus – in Çatalköy and in Famagusta.
