Northern Cyprus to Observe the Night of Forgiveness
On the night of February 13-14, Northern Cyprus will observe Berat Kandili, a significant occasion in Islam marking spiritual purification, divine mercy, and forgiveness. It is considered a prelude to Ramadan and one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar.
Berat Kandili falls on the night between the 14th and 15th of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. In Islamic tradition, it is believed to be a night of absolution, during which sins are forgiven and destinies for the coming year are written.
According to Islamic belief, on this night, Allah granted the Prophet Muhammad the right of intercession (shafa’ah) for all Muslims. Many believers spend the night in prayer, reciting the Quran and seeking divine mercy.
Muslims are encouraged to pray for the acceptance of their good deeds, ask for forgiveness, and remember their departed loved ones, wishing them peace and divine blessings.
Following Berat Kandili, the "harbinger of Ramadan" celebrated on February 13, the holy month of Ramadan will begin on March 1.
Additionally, Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Power) will be observed on March 26, and Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram) on March 30.
