Lighting to Be Installed at 8 Intersections and Roundabouts in Northern Cyprus
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has announced plans to install lighting at 8 additional intersections and roundabouts across the country.
According to the ministry, two agreements have been signed for the installation and lighting of a total of 8 roundabouts. These are located on the Northern Ring Road in Nicosia, the main Nicosia-Famagusta road, the Nicosia-Metahan-Güzelyurt ring road, and the main Famagusta-Karpaz road.
The agreements were signed by Erhan Arıklı, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, and the leaders of the contracting companies, Paramaribo Turizm Ltd and Decomar Mermer ve Granite Sanayi Ltd.
The Minister emphasized that these agreements will improve road safety on the identified routes.
"We are determined to solve the issue of darkness at roundabouts and intersections, which has long been a challenge for both drivers and us, in cooperation with the private sector. I hope these projects will be completed as quickly as possible, so everyone using the roads will feel safer," said the Minister.
Five roundabouts—Sanayi on the Northern Ring Road in Nicosia, the Hamitköy roundabout, the new roundabout between Hamitköy and Haspolat, the Tashkent-Haspolat roundabout, and the Haspolat roundabout on the Nicosia-Famagusta highway—will be illuminated by Paramaribo Tourism Ltd.
The lighting and development of three additional roundabouts—the Aslanköy intersection on the main Nicosia-Famagusta road, the Agillar roundabout on the Nicosia-Metahan-Güzelyurt ring road, and the St. Barnabas roundabout on the Famagusta-Iskele road—will be handled by Decomar Marble and Granite Industry Ltd.
Work on the project will begin once approved by the Department of Road Transport. The companies that signed the agreements will carry out the landscaping, lighting, and greening, as well as ongoing maintenance, repairs, and cleaning, in line with the Department of Road Transport's standards.
In exchange for the landscaping and lighting work, the companies will be allowed to place advertisements at the intersections and roundabouts for a period of one year, with an option to extend this period afterward.
