Inspection of Meat Shops Completed in Northern Cyprus
The Public Health Division of the Veterinary Department has released the results of its May inspections of meat shops in Northern Cyprus. A total of 27 trading points were assessed, and one establishment was closed due to sanitary violations.
Throughout the country, authorities inspected 27 meat shops. As a result, licenses were granted to five new businesses.
It was determined that 26 establishments met hygiene standards, but one shop in Gönyeli was found to have significant hygiene issues.
During the inspection, it was discovered that the shop had failed to properly seal one large cattle carcass and sheep carcasses in accordance with regulatory requirements. Approximately 350 kg of meat was confiscated with assistance from the Alayköy-Gönyeli municipal teams. Due to poor sanitary conditions, the owner was fined an amount equivalent to the minimum wage.
The shop's operations were suspended until hygiene requirements were met. After implementing necessary measures within 15 days, the shop was allowed to resume operations. Ongoing inspections of meat shops will continue to ensure public health protection.
Previously, the Soil Products Institute (TÜK) announced the availability of imported frozen lamb meat in the TRNC. The institute published addresses and contact information for markets and meat shops where the product is available.
