In Northern Cyprus, simit (bagel) prices have sharply increased
In cafes and bakeries of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), there has been a recorded increase in the prices of the popular bakery item - Turkish bagels, also known as simits. With the rise in the minimum wage, the cost of these buns has increased by up to 50% in some establishments.
According to information from Kıbrıs Postas, in the last few days, the price of one simit has risen from 20 to 30 Turkish liras. As reported to the publication by bakeries and cafes, the price increase has affected not only the famous sesame-seed-covered pastries but also other pastry products.
It's worth noting that at the end of last week, the commission determining the minimum wage announced the new minimum wage in Northern Cyprus - before tax deductions, it now stands at 27,587 Turkish liras, and after deductions, it is 24,000 Turkish liras.
