Northern Cyprus Launches Ramadan Price Reduction Campaign

A new campaign titled “Prices Lowered for the Blessings of Ramadan” has been launched in Northern Cyprus, offering a 10% discount on selected products throughout the holy month.

The initiative was announced by TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, who emphasized its importance in supporting households during Ramadan. He noted that the campaign is expected to ease the financial burden on consumers and enhance purchasing power.

Wide Industry Support

The campaign, launched under the leadership of the Prime Minister and backed by local businesses, has gained support from key industry organizations, including:

  • Northern Cyprus Consumer Goods Suppliers Association (TUTDER)
  • Milk Producers and Importers Association (SÜİB)
  • Cyprus Butchers Association
  • Cyprus and Turkey Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Traders Association

Üstel urged all markets to participate and adjust their prices accordingly. The Ministry of Economy has been tasked with monitoring compliance to ensure the campaign benefits consumers as intended.

Long-Term Commitment to Price Reductions

“I hope that the blessings of Ramadan bring prosperity and peace to all. This campaign is not just about one month; our efforts to lower prices and make essential goods more affordable will continue in the long run,” said Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.

Ramadan 2025: Key Dates

Ramadan began on February 28 and will conclude on March 29.

  • The first suhoor (pre-dawn meal) took place on the night of February 28–March 1, followed by the first iftar (evening meal to break the fast).
  • Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power) will be observed on March 26.
  • Eid al-Fitr (Ramazan Bayramı) will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30 to mark the end of fasting.

Previous Price Reductions

Even before the launch of this campaign, Northern Cyprus' butchers and dairy producers had lowered their prices in honor of Ramadan. The Milk Producers Association (SÜİB) announced a 10% price cut on milk and dairy products, followed by a similar price reduction by the Butchers Association.
