Northern Cyprus is observing Heart Health Week from April 14 to 20, aiming to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and the importance of prevention. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), heart disease is responsible for one in every three deaths worldwide, including in the TRNC.

In a statement, the TRNC Ministry of Health announced that the second week of April has officially been designated Heart Health Week to spotlight the growing concern over cardiovascular diseases and to encourage healthier lifestyles. The WHO emphasizes that up to 80% of cardiovascular-related deaths are preventable through simple lifestyle changes.

The main risk factors include:

— Lack of physical activity
— Alcohol and tobacco use

Throughout the week, various events and campaigns will be held across the island to promote heart health and disease prevention. Experts recommend the following everyday habits to protect your heart:

Eat a balanced and nutritious diet
