Ethical standards in the media discussed at Eastern Mediterranean University in Northern Cyprus

The Peace Research and Communication Center (BAİM) at the Faculty of Communication of the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) held a seminar on November 11 on the topic “Ethical Issues in the Media.” The event took place in the Aysel Aziz conference hall and brought together students, academics, and media industry representatives.
The chair of the Media Ethics Council and EMU Cinema and Television Department lecturer, Aysu Basri Akter, delivered a presentation. She spoke about key principles of professional ethics and emphasized that accuracy, responsibility, and the protection of public interest are the foundation of trust in journalism.
According to Akter, “Ethics is the conscience of the media: it is important not only what we report, but also how we report it.” Participants received practical recommendations on maintaining ethical standards in news presentation.
The seminar served as a platform to discuss the role of journalists in shaping public opinion and promoting standards of honest and responsible journalism in Northern Cyprus.
