According to the newspaper *Ahbab*, Yürük was driving a vehicle with the license plate UE 621 and was under the influence of alcohol — 172‰. At the 12–13th kilometre of the road, while heading toward Girne, he reportedly veered to the right and blocked the oncoming lane.
As a result, vehicle UE 621 collided head-on with vehicle EE 461, driven by 18-year-old Zeynep Kartal. The passenger of vehicle EE 461, 19-year-old Barış Ağca, a resident of Alsancak, died at the scene.
