In Northern Cyprus, teachers are once again on strike: list of schools
The Union of Turkish Cypriot Secondary School Teachers (KTOEÖS) will carry out a protest action against afternoon classes on Monday and Tuesday. The strike will take place simultaneously in several educational institutions.
According to the statement by KTOEÖS President Selma Eylem, the teachers' union will continue to refuse to conduct classes in the afternoon.
On Monday, December 25th, protest actions will take place in the following educational institutions:
- Şht. Hüseyin Ruso High School
- Maarif Famagusta Turkish College
- Çanakkale High School
- Mehmetcik High School
The union leader added that on Tuesday, December 26th, at 10:00, a protest action will be held at Hüseyin Ruso High School, and a press statement will be made.
It is worth noting that teacher strikes have been a regular occurrence in Northern Cyprus since the beginning of the school year.
Among the teachers' grievances against the Ministry of Education are the shortage of teachers, administrative staff, untimely removal of garbage containers, and a large number of students who do not speak the Turkish language.
It is also claimed that schools were switched to "full-day" education without proper preparation and organization, and the buildings of educational institutions are at risk of collapse in the event of an earthquake.
