Eight Arrested for Drug Possession in Northern Cyprus

Eight individuals have been arrested in Northern Cyprus on suspicion of illegal drug possession. The operations took place recently in Gönyeli, Gemikonağı, and Iskele.

According to a statement from the police press office, during a search conducted yesterday by teams from the Drug and Smuggling Enforcement Unit, a potted plant believed to be marijuana was found in the home of a 53-year-old resident of Gönyeli-Yenikent. Also discovered were ready-to-use cannabis and a metal detector, the import of which is prohibited in the country.

In Gemikonağı, police teams from the Lefke police station conducted a search at the home of a 24-year-old man. They found 14 grams of cannabis, along with a grinder and precision scales. Three individuals aged 22 and 23 were arrested on suspicion of involvement in this case.

Additionally, during routine traffic checks carried out by traffic units under the Güzelyurt police department on Ecevit Street in Gemikonağı around 11:10 PM, a search was conducted on the vehicle of a 35-year-old driver who was stopped for document verification.

During the search, a substance believed to be a type of cannabis weighing about 1 gram was found, along with a hand-rolled cigarette suspected of containing a mixture of narcotics. The driver was detained.

In an operation conducted by the Drug and Smuggling Enforcement Unit in Iskele, 10 grams of cannabis were found on a 28-year-old man, while a 22-year-old woman was found with 1 gram each of MDMA and cocaine. Both individuals have been arrested.
