In the TRNC, despite financial difficulties in the country, there is a boom in the purchase of premium and luxury car brands. In 2023, 136 Mercedes, 69 BMWs, 67 Porsches, 7 Maseratis, and 4 Ferraris were sold in Northern Cyprus.

According to the Department of Vehicle Registration, Inspection, and Licensing, in 2023, slightly over 23,000 vehicles were registered in the TRNC. Among them were 2,760 new and 20,249 used cars. In 2022, 11,127 new and used cars were registered. Thus, in 2023, sales of both new and used cars doubled.

The publication “Dialogue” drew attention to the sharp increase in sales of expensive cars. For example, while 77 Mercedes and 46 BMWs were sold in 2022, in 2023, the numbers rose to 136 and 69, respectively. There was also a significant increase in demand for Porsche cars. While only 9 Porsches were sold in 2022, in 2023, 67 of such cars were sold.

Among mid-priced cars in the TRNC last year, Nissan led the way. In 2023, the Nissan Note took the first place among small sedans, often preferred due to low maintenance and tax costs. A total of 1,842 such cars were sold. Honda followed with 1,645 purchased cars. The third place was taken by the Toyota Vitz, with 1,399 units sold.

The top five also included the Suzuki Swift (fourth place with 107 units) and the Mazda Demio (995 cars sold).
