The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the TRNC announced the results of inspections carried out from February 6 to 12. As part of the checks, samples of imported and local products were sent to the State Laboratory and analyzed in accordance with the EU’s maximum residue limits for pesticides.

Of the 34 samples of imported products, 33 were found to comply with the standards. In one case — a batch of Granny variety apples imported by REE Ticaret — excessive levels of plant protection products were detected. The products were returned to the country of origin.

As for local products, 32 of the 34 tested samples were found to be “clean.” In two cases, exceedances of the permissible limits were recorded. These involved strawberries grown by Osman Cantaş, a resident of Yıldırım village, as well as Mandora variety mandarins from producer Gökhan Savaroğlu from the village of Doğancı.

The ministry clarified that the harvesting and sale of the specified products have been suspended pending repeated laboratory analyses.
