In Northern Cyprus, outdoor work has been banned
Starting today, there is a prohibition on outdoor work in the TRNC, effective from June 6th to 9th, between 12:00 and 16:00.
The ban on outdoor work in Northern Cyprus comes in response to the region's extreme heatwave. Temperatures are expected to soar to 44°C today.
To safeguard workers who are consistently exposed to the scorching sun, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the TRNC has imposed restrictions on outdoor work from June 6th to 9th, spanning from 12:00 to 16:00.
The ministry has emphasized the hazards associated with outdoor work in high temperatures, as outlined in the Labour Law and safety regulations. This restriction is enacted based on forecasts from the TRNC Meteorology Department, indicating that temperatures will remain above the seasonal average.
Employers are advised that start times for work in agriculture and construction, conducted outside residential areas, can be adjusted accordingly. Earlier start times may be considered for the transportation of construction materials and equipment to worksites, as highlighted by the ministry.
