Turtle Release Season Concludes in Northern Cyprus
The nesting, hatching, and releasing season for turtles in Northern Cyprus has come to an end. The charitable organization "Cyprus Marine Life Karsiyaka" protected 72 nests and released a record number of hatchlings into the sea.
"We are thrilled to announce the completion of the season at Karsiyaka Beach. It has been a fantastic season with 72 nests laid and protected, and we have recorded a record number of green turtles," said the animal protection group in a social media post.
Cyprus Marine Life Karsiyaka expressed their gratitude to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly under the blazing sun to safeguard the turtle nests.
"Our excavation sites were always bustling with visitors, and our team of volunteers continued to support the efforts diligently," emphasized the activists.
They also highlighted that, thanks to the "Name a Nest" campaign and the active involvement of sponsors, 66 "named" turtle nests were established in Northern Cyprus this year.
Meanwhile, volunteers in Karpaz are still busy as there are nests from which turtle hatchlings continue to emerge.
It’s worth noting that the 5th Caretta Caretta Festival took place last weekend in Lapta. During the festival, turtles that had received treatment were released back into the sea.
