Sea Water Quality Analysis from Beaches in Northern Cyprus Completed
The results of sea water samples taken from beaches across Northern Cyprus have been released. The analysis, conducted by the State Laboratory, has been completed.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment published the results of the July tests.
Seawater samples from TRNC beaches were collected by the Department of Environmental Protection under a cooperation protocol signed between the ministries of tourism and health.
According to the published data, a total of 84 designated bathing areas were tested. Nearly all of them met the regulatory standards and were deemed suitable for swimming. However, 12 beaches showed elevated levels of E. coli and enterococci.
The statement from the agencies notes that the “Bathing Water Quality Regulation” project, prepared by the Primary Health Department, is still under development. Details regarding the assessment parameters have been provided.
As a result, repeat samples will be collected from beaches with elevated values to determine if contamination persists at the same level.
Additionally, repeat samples may be taken from beaches where initial results were below regulatory limits within the month.
- “If contamination continues or does not decrease sufficiently, further investigations will be conducted to implement necessary measures and actions to improve water quality,” the statement said.
