Car catches fire after accident on Lefkoşa–Güzelyurt highway, driver flees
Early in the morning on April 5, at around 05:30, an accident occurred at the 1st kilometer of the Lefkoşa–Güzelyurt highway, after which a car caught fire.
According to police, the driver of a car with plate number KD 447 was traveling in a westerly direction and lost control near the Turkcell pedestrian crossing. The vehicle crashed into a metal central reservation and caught fire after the impact — presumably due to a fuel leak that came into contact with hot engine parts.
The fire was extinguished by arriving firefighters. As a result of the incident, the car sustained serious damage.
The driver left the scene without providing their details and has not yet been identified. Police are conducting an investigation.
