Stolen car found in Ercan airport parking lot
The TRNC police have discovered a car stolen over the weekend from the Erzhan airport parking lot. Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arikli referred to the car theft as an accident.
According to Kıbrıs Postası, law enforcement authorities were able to locate the stolen vehicle with license plate NC 622 within two days.
To recall, the car, which was parked at the Ercan airport, was stolen on Saturday, December 9.
Relatives of the car owner reported that the owner had left the keys in the car. Not finding the vehicle in the designated spot, they went to the police.
It is claimed that the surveillance cameras in the parking lot were not working. The publication also notes that malfunctioning cameras revealed a serious weakness in the airport's security system.
At the same time, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arikli, on his social media page, denied information about non-functional cameras at the airport and called the missing car incident a mere coincidence.
According to the minister, cars were simply confused – individuals who left in the car thought it belonged to their boss because vehicles were simply parked next to each other.
Erhan Arikli also asserts that the cameras in the airport parking lot are functioning normally, and the details of the incident were clarified thanks to the recordings from them.
Yesterday evening, the police found the missing car and the two individuals who had driven it. When statements were taken, it became clear that the incident was not the result of theft but a simple coincidence," concluded the minister.
