Over 1.4 tons of illegal meat seized in Lefkoşa
A joint operation between the municipality and the police was conducted in the Hamitköy district of Lefkoşa, uncovering serious violations of sanitary standards. The inspection was initiated following a tip-off from a citizen and led to the discovery of a large batch of illegally produced meat at a dairy farm belonging to the BS company.
As a result of the raid, 1,395 kilograms of beef and 70 kilograms of mutton were seized. Specialists determined that the slaughtering was carried out without veterinary control, in unsanitary conditions, and without mandatory labeling, making the products potentially dangerous for consumer health.
Dr. Erkut D. Ozgoray, head of the municipality's sanitary and epidemiological service, reported that all seized meat was destroyed under police supervision. According to him, such actions are aimed at preventing threats to public health. Those involved in the violations were fined an amount equivalent to two minimum wages.
Authorities emphasize that such inspections will continue, and any cases of illegal food production will be strictly suppressed.
