"Hunger Limit" Identified in Northern Cyprus in November
The Union of Turkish Cypriot Public Servants (KTAMS) has calculated the so-called "hunger limit" in Northern Cyprus for November. The minimum expenses for a family of four amounted to 17,880 Turkish liras.
KTAMS President Gyven Bengihan emphasized that the gap between the minimum wage and the hunger threshold in the country is 2,130 Turkish liras. In terms of pounds sterling, the minimum wage is 430 pounds, while the "hunger limit" is 489 pounds.
It is noted that the "hunger limit" was calculated taking into account the prices sent by the Statistical Institute for a full-fledged diet for a family of four.
According to a union-conducted study, the mandatory expenses for adequate nutrition are as follows: for an adult woman, 151.78 TL per day and 4,553.4 TL per month; for an adult man, 158.94 TL per day and 4,768.2 TL per month; for a child aged 15-19, 170.16 TL per day and 5,104.8 TL per month; and for a child aged 4-6, 115.13 TL per day and 3,453.9 TL per month.
It is worth reminding that according to the Statistical Institute's data, in November 2023, the inflation rate in the country was 4.42%, and the annual inflation was 81.99%.
