The General Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) failed to hold its session today due to a lack of quorum. Despite two attempts to start proceedings, the required number of deputies did not attend. In a historic first, the Speaker publicly read out the names of absent deputies from the podium.

The session was initially scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM, but the necessary quorum—26 deputies, representing the majority—was not achieved. After a 15-minute delay, a second attempt was made, but it also failed to gather the required attendance. As a result, the session was postponed for 24 hours.

The agenda for the General Assembly included significant legislative matters such as proposed amendments to laws governing public safety officials, the regulation of monthly salaries and benefits for civil servants, the declaration of undisclosed income of deceased individuals, and taxation on inherited properties. The Committee on Economy, Finance, and Planning was also expected to present reports on related projects.

Another notable item on the agenda was the third reading of a resolution to approve the transfer of olive tree properties located on lands owned by Murat Kaya Construction Ltd. in the village of Zeytinlik.
