The TRNC Parliament has begun discussing the 2026 budget
The General Assembly of the TRNC Parliament held a session on December 8, 2025, to discuss the central government's budget bill for 2026. The session was chaired by Parliament Speaker Ziya Öztürkler; the report on the project was presented by the Chair of the Committee on Economy, Finance, Budget, and Plans, Resmiye Eroğlu Canaltay. The budget presentation was delivered by Finance Minister Yozdemir Berova. The session began at 11:56.
Berova stated that the 2026 budget aims to restore the economy and strengthen citizens' trust. According to the presented data, budget expenditures are projected at 205.8 billion Turkish Lira (TL), revenues at 180.6 billion TL; the forecasted deficit is 25.2 billion TL.
The document outlines priorities such as maintaining fiscal balance, stimulating production, reducing unemployment, and improving citizens' welfare. Measures include strengthening tax fairness, reducing the shadow economy, combating tax evasion, and simplifying the tax system. It notes an increase in state revenues while simultaneously cutting unnecessary expenses and allocating significant portions to healthcare and education.
The budget also includes support for low-income families, improving pensioners' income, and expanding access to medical and educational services. Investments in agriculture, industry, and tourism are planned to be increased, as well as the expansion of electronic government services in 2026. According to the minister, the deficit is manageable and will gradually decrease from 2027; the budget is described as the beginning of a multi-year transformation.
