Greek-Cypriot Lefteris Theoharus, who was found with narcotics during a search at the Metehan checkpoint, appeared in court again in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) yesterday.

Recall that on November 23, the police in Northern Cyprus received operational information that Lefteris Theoharus would have narcotics for their illegal transportation from the southern part of the island to the northern part.

During the special operation, the Republic of Cyprus citizen was detained when attempting to pass through the checkpoint. Upon searching the suspect, 10 grams of white powder, presumably cocaine, were found in a transparent polyethylene bag in his underwear, which he was wearing. The substances were seized as material evidence and sent for examination.

The courier himself explained the presence of drugs on him by the desire to use them personally. However, the police lean towards another version: Lefteris Theoharus smuggled the drugs into the country with the intention of distributing them.

The police claim that Theoharus has crossed the border many times recently, and law enforcement has substantial evidence that the Greek-Cypriot has imported drugs into the country in the past.

The court extended the suspect's detention for another 4 days.
